Elder

Hometown: Roanoke, Va

Family: Mary and I were married in November of 1983. We have 2 daughters, 2 son-in-law’s, and 5 grandchildren. There are few things we love more than spending time with family.

Education: I attended Bridgewater College for 3 years and then transferred early to the Medical College of Virginia and received a B.A. in Pharmacy.

Background: I have worked for 38 years as a Pharmacist. First at Eckerd Drug, then at an Independent pharmacy that Mary and I owned, and more recently at a family pharmacy in Vinton . Mary has been giving piano lessons over this same period of time.

Something many people may not know about me: Mary gave me a green muppet named Bernie when our girls were young. For years Bernie and I performed in the school system and area churches. Today we still give special performances for my grandchildren.

Passion at Orchard Hills: For years the Lord has given me a passion for working with those with special needs through Young Life Capernaum and ministry with children- especially Orchard Hills Achievement Center. Investing in their lives and sharing Jesus with them has been some of the best memories of my life.

Favorite Illustration of Biblical Truth: “As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector’s booth. “Follow me” he told him, and Matthew got up and followed him.” - Matthew 9:9

These words are the most powerful words we will ever hear in our lifetime. Matthew wasn’t unique in hearing Jesus speak these words, but he was unique in how he responded to them. Matthew understood- we are to be followers of Jesus…. not admirers…….profound difference.
