Marc’s Bio
Elder
Hometown: Kenai, Alaska
Family: Mandy and I were married on April 7, 2001 in Morgantown, WV. In 2005 we moved to Roanoke where I began my teaching career. Mandy is a physical therapist assistant at Roanoke Memorial Hospital, and we have three sons, Rider, Jack, and Jude.
Education: B.A. in Religious Studies and English and M.A. in Education from West Virginia University
Background: I am blessed to have been raised in a Christian home and accepted Jesus as my savior at a young age. In college, I studied theater and music, before switching to religious studies, and did a lot of performing and directing in church as well as the university. After college, I sampled a wide variety of potential careers, including fire/flood restoration, insurance sales, and radio production, before ending up in education. I’ve been teaching English at William Byrd High School since 2005.
My Passion at Orchard Hills: To see our community encounter the grace, acceptance, and truth of Jesus Christ.
Something not many people would know about me: I played in a band called The Frothing Splat Monkeys.
Favorite Illustration of Biblical Truth: I once heard a comedian describe Jonah’s half-digested condition after 3 days in the belly of a whale. I should think we all look like this, or worse, in the eyes of God. But it doesn’t stop him from desiring us—desiring to love us, to raise us up, to incorporate us into his perfect plan.
