LISA'S BIO
Children’s Ministry Director /
Orchard Hills Achievement Center Director
Hometown: Fredericksburg, VA
Family: My husband, Jeff, and I met in college through mutual friends. He was attending Radford University, and I was attending Virginia Tech. We married in 1995, and moved with his job to the Roanoke area in 1998. We have four children and one daughter in law: Drew, a teacher in Chesapeake, VA, Jack, who is married to Nathalie and living in Raleigh, NC, Abbey, a student and Wyldlife leader at Virginia Tech, and Sarah, a junior at LBHS. We also have a great dog, Maggie, who loves to bark at all of our neighbors. Jeff and I love hanging out with our children (especially when we can get them all together), and watching God's plans unfold in their lives.
Education: BA English – Virginia Tech GO HOKIES!
Background: I have two years in social work and five years in education. I took a ministry position in 2002 as a children’s director, and in 2010, I came on staff at OHC as the Director of Children’s Ministry. In 2012, I helped found the Orchard Hills Achievement Center to serve under-resourced children in our community.
My passion at Orchard Hills: My passion is to see children and families experience the love of Jesus.
Something not many people know about me: I was born in Richmond, Va, to a college student who loved me enough to leave school and go to a home for unwed mothers to have me. She chose to put me up for adoption and made sure I was placed with a couple who was following God. Because of her, I was blessed to grow up with a Mom and Dad who loved Jesus.
Favorite illustration of a biblical truth: Psalm 23, “The Lord is my Shepherd…” God cares about all aspects of our lives and has provided his presence to comfort us even in uncomfortable surroundings. As a mother of four who also works with children, I often feel like a shepherd gathering the lambs who are going all over the place! It is a wonderful reminder of how God gathers us and leads us.
